Finding the perfect hotel is essential to an amazing vacation in the Turks and Caicos, and it doesn’t take much research to find the ideal place to stay. Accommodations range from the classic hotel, to expansive all-inclusive resorts, and rental villas.
Our spectacular white sand beaches and marine environment are our primary tourism attractions, and beyond rate considerations, the best place to stay is typically the property that gives you the easiest opportunity to enjoy the beach and ocean, your way.
The Turks and Caicos has several inhabited islands, and the considerations when choosing a location vary depending on which island you choose to stay on. It’s important to keep in mind that all of the islands in the archipelago are quite small, so driving travel distances are rarely long.
Beachfront properties are of course always preferable, yet as may be expected, they typically come at a higher cost, particularly on Providenciales.
Providenciales, the most developed island in the Turks and Caicos, is likewise home to nearly all of the large hotels and resorts in the country. For most visitors, the island of Providenciales is the right choice, as the selection of water sports, beaches, restaurants, and boat charters is the greatest. Our smaller and outer islands have their own unique ambiances and appeals, and should be considered by those seeking seclusion and untouched nature.
Beyond the island of Providenciales the choice is more limited, and consequently, location and region consideration is less relevant.
Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales is the center of tourism in the Turks and Caicos, and many of the country’s large resorts, restaurants, and upscale shopping are found in the Grace Bay region. There’s a broad collection of beachfront and inland properties to choose from, including 5-star luxury resorts, quaint getaways, and budget-oriented condos. Grace Bay Beach is within walking distance of nearly all of the hotels located in the general Grace Bay area.
Included amenities vary of course according to the property class and rate, yet almost all hotels have a swimming pool, housekeeping service, complimentary Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and free parking, and most sites provide a much greater list of amenities. Room amenities, even in the case of studios, will typically include at least a mini refrigerator, coffee and tea facilities, and toiletries, and many of the condo units feature kitchens.
The Turks and Caicos and especially the island of Providenciales have become an excellent culinary destination, with a collection of gourmet restaurants that complement our luxury resorts and hotels. Many of the hotels on Providenciales in the Grace Bay or Turtle Cove area are within easy walking distance of multiple dining options. Properties outside of Grace Bay and Turtle Cove have more limited choices, yet in any case, are only a few minute drive away from an ample range of restaurants.
For the best rates, or to possibly snag extra perks, it’s a good idea to contact your chosen property directly. When bookings are made through the major online booking websites, properties have to pay substantial commissions, which they don’t have to pay when customers book direct. Properties are often happy to share the savings with their guests when direct bookings are made, which may be in the form of discounts, free nights, or extra perks such as complementary spa or restaurant vouchers.
From a weather perspective, the time of year should not be a major consideration when deciding on when to vacation in Turks and Caicos. The winter months are usually a little breezier and the summer months may be a bit hot, yet year-round the norm is sunny skies and very pleasant ocean water temperatures.
Prices and availability do however vary. Holidays and the winter and early spring ‘high season’ months typically have higher rates compared to late summer and autumn ‘low season’, when rates may be as low as half the peak rates.
Accommodation bookings will typically incur several taxes and fees. In the case of stays at hotels in the Turks and Caicos by visitors, Tourism Tax is required, and a Facility Fee may also be charged. Properties and booking sites may elect to add other fees, but are not mandated to by law.
A 12% Tourism Tax is applicable on stays in the Turks and Caicos. This is mandated by the government, and is paid by accommodations to the government. Tourism tax is typically also charged on add-on fees, such as on excess electricity usage fees, which are charged in some cases with villa rentals.
Service Charge is also applicable on stays at hotels and resorts, and in most cases is mandated to be charged by the government, and the law stipulates that this fee be 10%. Service charge is paid out to non-managerial property staff.
Facility Fee is an additional charge that properties may charge their guests. If properties elect to charge this fee, it must follow a defined framework, and can also not exceed 5%. Nearly all properties do charge this fee, and this is kept by the property (and not transferred to the Government).
Cleaning Fees, security deposits, and other fees may be charged by properties, especially in the case of villa rentals. These fees, when charged, are the specific policy of properties or managers, and are not mandated by the government. They are, however, subject to the 12% tourism tax.
