Providenciales E-Biking

Electric bikes are a speedier alternative to regular bicycles.

Electric bikes, or e-bikes, are a relatively new phenomenon on Providenciales, and are a fun way to explore the island while exerting less energy than you would on a traditional bicycle. These bikes have an attached, battery-powered motor that you can activate to cycle faster, allowing you to cover more ground in a shorter time.

There are a few companies on Providenciales that rent electric bikes. Eco Bikes TCI is conveniently located in Grace Bay within walking distance of several beachfront resorts, and offers delivery to your hotel or villa.

Providenciales is a relatively small island compared to many holiday destinations in the Caribbean, so a half-day’s ride on an electric bike will allow you to see a good portion of the north coast's beaches and sights.

The safest and most common routes to explore by electric bike are Grace Bay, the Bight, Turtle Cove, and Leeward. Grace Bay is where you’ll find most of the island’s shops, restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlors, and plazas.

Renting an Electric Bike Versus a Bicycle

There's plenty to explore in Grace Bay.

While the bikes tend to be heavier and a little tougher to maneuver around tight corners, electric bikes are a fast and more robust alternative to human-powered bicycles, allowing them to cross rougher terrain.

Riding an electric bike is also less physically-demanding than riding a traditional bicycle. When you’re tired or struggling to pedal across rougher stretches of road, you can use the throttle to propel the bike forward without needing to pedal. This makes electric bikes a great alternative for travelers with activity restrictions and mobility issues.

While you still need to know how to ride a bike to operate an electric bike, you’ll spend far less energy riding from Leeward to the Bight than you would on a resort cruiser.

Rental Costs

Like regular bicycles, electric bikes on the island are typically rented by the day or week, not by the hour. The cost of renting an electric bike on Providenciales starts at around $50 per day, while the cost of renting a regular bicycle starts at $20 (though some resorts and villas provide free cruiser bikes for guests to use).

Below is a map of recommended routes and estimated times for cycling. These are NOT cycle routes—there are no dedicated or shared cycle lanes in the country. Numbers are for reference only. Keep in mind that the estimated times listed below are for regular bicycles—electric bikes will take you approximately half the time, or more if you're taking a more leisurely cruise.
