Yoshi's Japanese Restaurant

Sushi lovers don’t have to forego their favorite Japanese cuisine when in the Turks and Caicos. In fact, visitors will excellent sushi on the island of Providenciales at Yoshi’s Sushi in the heart of Grace Bay.

Owner Yoshi Ono hails from Japan and got his first job at a sushi restaurant outside Tokyo when he was 19, so you can rest assured that the sushi is fresh and authentic, yet with an innovative twist.

The Menu

The menu at Yoshi’s is extensive. There are traditional starters like seaweed salad and edamame, as well as more modern appetizers such as the spicy tuna martini and the creamy corn croquette.

If you come to Yoshi’s for sushi, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll find the usual rolls you can order from most sushi restaurants, such as spicy tuna, salmon with avocado, shrimp tempura, and of course, the California Roll (made with crab stick)—all served with eight to 10 pieces. But the menu also has a Turks and Caicos twist, so you’ll also find the Spicy Conch Roll, created with fresh local conch and served with cucumber, fish roe, and spicy sauce. Making sushi on an island also means that the fish is often fresh. During the local August to April spiny lobster season, the menu expands to include several fresh lobster dishes.

There’s something here for vegetarians too, beyond the salads. Choose from the Asparagus Tempura Roll, Avocado and Cucumber, the Spring Roll with Avocado, or the Carrot Roll made with carrot, avocado, and cucumber.

If you like your rolls a little more fun and substantial, Yoshi’s “Special Roll” menu offers a variety to choose from, whether you prefer your rolls raw, cooked, or deep-fried. Highlights include the Caribbean Roll, which is a traditional spicy tuna roll topped with even more tuna, salmon, and avocado, and is perfect for those who love raw fish. There’s also the Volcano Roll, which is a mix of shrimp tempura and avocado topped on a California roll. And if you want to go the deep-fried route, there’s the Kamikaze Roll, made with deep-fried snow crab (or lobster when in season), cucumber, avocado, scallions, fish roe, and spicy mayonnaise. You could also try the Rock’n Roll, made with deep-fried fish, cream cheese, scallions, fish roe, and spicy mayonnaise.

If you’re not so keen on sushi, Yoshi’s offers an extensive menu beyond the sushi rolls. There are several noodle dishes to choose from, including ramen noodle soup and tempura Udon noodle soup. The tempura options include vegetables, chicken, shrimp, and lobster when it’s in season. The appetizer menu also includes several options for those looking for something other than sushi, such as pork ribs served with Japanese barbecue sauce, the Chicken Katsu (garlic deep-fried chicken), and the Beef Blossom, which is sliced beef served with garlic, scallions, and a citrusy dressing.

Drinks and Dessert

At Yoshi’s, the drinks menu is as extensive as the food menu. You can pair your meal with a round of sake, which is a Japanese alcohol made from fermented rice. Sake can be served either hot or cold, depending on personal preference. For more contemporary cocktails, there are also plenty of options on the menu, including the Blue Lagoon (vodka, lemonade, and blue curaçao), the Rasta Punch (rum punch with blue curaçao), and the Hurricane (coconut rum with orange and cranberry juices). Traditional cocktails are also on offer, from a classic margarita to the Moscow mule. You’ll also find a variety of beers, wines, and martinis.

After dinner, you can treat yourself to something from the dessert menu. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a traditional chocolate cake with ice cream, xango (fried cheesecake), or ice cream tempura (fried ice cream). You can then wash it all down with an espresso or an espresso cocktail.

Enjoy it all indoors or outside on the patio, where you can watch the world go by along the Grace Bay strip. Whether you come here for sushi or any other of the restaurant’s delicious contemporary Japanese dishes, there’s something to satiate everyone’s palate at Yoshi’s.

The Saltmills Plaza is a retail and professional enclave, located in the heart of Grace Bay on Providenciales. The plaza is home to many shops, a police station, a bank, law firms, and government offices. Adjacent to the Saltmills Plaza are the Regent Village and Le Vele Plaza.
