The Cake Lady is a custom cake baker in the Turks and Caicos.

The Cake Lady is a private bakery run by Turks and Caicos resident Adele van Schoor that specializes in custom event cakes. Adele bakes and decorates cakes for birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, christenings, and any of life’s other memorable moments. All of her cakes are made in-house, so you won’t find them on the shelves or in the cold fridges of local grocers.

The Cakes

Adele discovered her love of baking after leaving her native South Africa for Providenciales more than a decade ago. What started out as a hobby baking elaborate birthday cakes for her kids evolved into a private bakery business that has operated for about 12 years. Today, she specializes in custom event cakes for local residents as well as tourists.

Custom cakes can make a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or other life event extra special. All of The Cake Lady’s creations are made customized to the client’s order—it’s rare, Adele says, that she ever makes the same cake twice. You can pick from a variety of cake flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, coconut, and for more mature crowds, rum or Baileys Irish Cream liqueur. For those with dietary restrictions or preferences, gluten-free or vegan cakes are also available upon request.

If you’re not big on cake, The Cake Lady also makes custom brownies, cookies, and cupcakes, as well as dessert table goodies for weddings, including mini cheesecakes, chocolate mousse cups, chocolate-covered strawberries, cake pops, meringues, mini doughnuts, and macarons.

Price and Availability

Basic birthday cakes start at around $160, with the largest and most detailed cakes costing as much as $400. For wedding cakes, expect to pay between $500 and $600, depending on complexity. Brownies, cupcakes, and cookies range from $40 to $60 per dozen, depending on the ingredients and complexity of the design.

Given that most of The Cake Lady’s clientele is local, the business is busy year-round. Plan to place your order one to two weeks before your event, keeping in mind that more detailed cakes can take longer—up to three weeks—to make. Pick Up and Delivery

Most customers pick up their own cakes or baked goods from The Cake Lady’s Discovery Bay location. But if you’re unable to collect your order yourself, The Cake Lady also offers delivery. Delivery is at an additional cost to the client, with the exception of wedding cake orders.
