The pink Bugatti- and teal Mercedes-style jet cars you’ve seen cruising on the ocean are the offerings of Onyx Charters, a water sports company that runs luxury jet car tours on the beautiful ocean surrounding Providenciales.
Onyx Charters is one of the newest local jet car companies and has the only four-seater jet car in the Turks and Caicos. Its cars are particularly popular on Instagram and TikTok and have received a few celebrity mentions.
Tours stop at several popular attractions in the area, including the La Famille Express shipwreck, Half Moon Bay (where you can see Turks and Caicos Islands rock iguanas), and the floating bars. At additional cost, you can book a drone photoshoot as an add-on to your jet car rental—these drone shots make for pretty unbelievable social media photos.
The jet cars are docked (parked) at the Blue Haven Marina in Leeward, about an 8-minute drive from Grace Bay.
What is a jet car?
A jet car is a type of watercraft with a hull that is designed to look like a car. The mechanics of a jet car are similar to those of a jet ski, but driving a jet car is like driving a vehicle—there’s a steering wheel, gas pedal, and even rearview mirrors.
The jet cars in Turks and Caicos can reach speeds of up to 55 mph (88 km/h). Generally, they're more comfortable to ride in than jet skis.
Onyx Charters' jet cars are what the company calls fully loaded: they are equipped with their own sound system, a supercharged engine, SeaDek (non-slip) flooring, and more.
Tours and Packages
Onyx Charters offers a variety of tour packages for their jet car experience, ranging from a 15-minute jet car drone shoot to a 60-minute tour of the nearby attractions.
All tours include use of your chosen jet car, life jackets, a tour guide who will accompany you on a jet ski to show you the sights, and a preliminary safety briefing and tutorial on driving the jet car. Guests should bring a bathing suit, especially if booking one of the attractions tours. It’s also recommended to bring sunglasses to protect your eyes from the salt spray and ocean glare.
You must bring an ID to ride in the jet car. All drivers will need to provide a driver’s license. Drivers must be at least 18 years old to drive the jet car, and passengers must be at least 10 years old.
Pink Bugatti Jet Car
The four-seater pink jet car, designed to look like a Bugatti, features a supercharged engine, marine-grade leather seats, and a Bluetooth premium sound system with six speakers and an amplifier that you can use to play your own music. Like a real car, this jet car also has headlights, taillights, wide-angle mirrors, and navigation lights. It also features footholds on its exterior, which are helpful for getting in and out of the jet car.
Teal Mercedes Jet Car
Modeled after a classic Mercedes, this jet car is the company’s two-seater offering. Like the Buggati jet car, it has a supercharged engine, marine-grade leather seats, lights and mirrors, and a Bluetooth speaker system that you can pair to.
Weather and Cancellation Policy
Onyx Charters' jet car tours are fully refundable or can be rescheduled at no additional cost in case of bad weather. The company also offers partial refunds if bad weather begins during your jet car experience.
Located at Blue Haven Marina
The luxury Blue Haven Marina is located at the beautiful Leeward Going Through channel off the east end of Providenciales. This extensive complex offers the full range of amenities, including fuel, water, and electricity services, restaurants, a market grocery store, and concierge services, along with the onsite resort. Yachts up to 220 feet (67 m) can be accommodated.
