Mama's Gift Shop
Ports of Call, Grace Bay Road, Grace Bay, ProvidencialesMama’s Gift Shop is a popular souvenir store on Providenciales that sells apparel, wares, island trinkets, and other souvenirs. The shop is located in Grace Bay at the Ports of Call plaza.
Since they opened the store in 1995, sisters and business partners Elena Williams Patrick and Challis Williams Ferguson—affectionately known to locals and their most loyal customers as Mama #1 and Mama #2— have been the faces of the business, selling their goods to both locals and tourists. The sisters, originally from the island of North Caicos, named the business in honor of their own mother, an entrepreneur who taught them the value of independence and owning their own business.
The Mamas have a reputation of making everyone who walks through their doors feel welcome in the islands. Many of their visiting customers come back year after year to catch up with them and purchase souvenirs for family and friends—some wearing the same T-shirt or baseball cap they may have purchased some 20 years ago.
The Souvenirs
Mama’s Gift Shop sells souvenirs that fit all budgets—some items are as little as $5, with paintings, glass sculptures, and other larger goods falling on the more expensive side. Some of their most popular items include magnets, mugs, key chains, t-shirts, jewelry, and postcards.
The store is also a great place to stop if you’re in a pinch and need a bottle of sunscreen on your way to the beach. Other beach essentials include towels, sunglasses, bathing suits, baseball caps, and woven baskets and tote bags.
Mama’s Gift Shop is known to run great sales on special holidays throughout the year—keep an eye on their social media pages for Black Friday, Christmas, New Year’s, and the occasional summer sales, when the store discounts its souvenirs by as much as 50 percent.
The mamas like to say that your vacation is not complete until you’ve visited their store—and once you do, chances are they’ll remember you the next time you’re in town.
Location
Mama’s Gift Shop has its storefront in vibrant Ports of Call, one of the older plazas on island known for its brightly painted buildings, Instagram-worthy map mural of the Turks and Caicos, and the pirate figurines and fake old timey stocks in its courtyard.
The plaza is within walking distance of many of the major hotels along Grace Bay Beach, including the Ritz-Carlton, Seven Stars Resort & Spa, Ocean Club West, and of course, Ports of Call Resort. If you’re driving to the plaza, there is ample parking around its perimeter. You’ll find Mama’s on the first floor of the plaza right beneath Cielo, a night club and social lounge.
