Captain Oak's Tiki Bar
ProvidencialesSituated off the picturesque shores of Long Bay Beach on the southeast side of Providenciales, Captain Oak’s Floating Tiki Bar is a popular tourist attraction to visit via boat or jet ski. Perhaps the most significant part of its appeal is its unique location: as its name suggests, Captain Oak’s floats on the serene and shallow waters of the beautiful bay.
Long Bay Beach is well-known for its shallow depths that extend for miles beyond the shore, which makes it the most popular kiteboarding location on Providenciales. It’s also home to the La Famille Express (often called the Long Bay Shipwreck)—a grounded Russian freighter that has served as a popular landmark in the Turks and Caicos for many years.
Despite being surrounded by water, getting to Captain Oak’s is easy and convenient, no matter where in the Turks and Caicos you’re staying. A short jet ski or boat ride will take you directly to the floating bar, which you access by climbing a ladder. A number of companies in the Turks and Caicos offer both guided and unguided jet ski rentals at affordable hourly rates. For jet ski rentals, it’s best to make your reservation in advance. However, for those without access to a jet ski or boat, don’t worry—Captain Oak’s also has a round-trip water taxi service available. Captain Oak’s is too far off the beach to swim out to.
The Menu and Drinks
If you’re on a boat of your own and in the mood for a drink, you’re also in luck as Captain Oak’s offers a curbside service.
With a wide variety of delicious food to choose from, an extensive selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic ice-cold drinks served by Captain Oak’s friendly and attentive staff, music played by Captain Oak himself, and a vibrant atmosphere, visitors to Captain Oak’s Floating Bar are guaranteed to have a fun-filled day on the water. If you’re hungry, the bar offers several local dishes that include fish and lobster when in season, as well as hamburgers, shrimp or beef kebabs, and corn, all available straight off the grill.
To add to its appeal, comfortable seating is available around the bar area, allowing patrons to relax while taking in the natural beauty of the Turks and Caicos. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more upbeat, the floating bar also has a spacious dance floor. When you’re ready for a cool-down, head down the ladder for a dip in the water. The water space just in front of the bar is cordoned with buoys to ensure that swimmers are protected from jet skis and boats passing by.
With so much to offer, including stunning panoramic views of the turquoise seas, it’s no wonder that Captain Oak’s has become increasingly popular among visitors to the Turks and Caicos, celebrities included. The likes of rappers Drake and Jack Harlow, and R and B singer Faith Evans, have all visited Captain Oak’s during their time in Turks and Caicos. Due to its popularity, the bar tends to get crowded quickly, particularly during peak times. Be sure to get there early to secure a good spot.
Captain Oak’s is usually open from 12 PM until sunset daily.
The floating bar’s closing time allows visitors to experience the beauty of a Turks and Caicos sunset while relaxing on the tranquil seas and head back to the shore before it gets too dark—the perfect end to a day in Turks and Caicos. Whether you come for a quick drink or want to make a full day out of it, Captain Oak’s is certainly worth a visit during your time in Turks and Caicos.
