Grand Turk FlowRider

Editor's Comments
The FlowRider is a great way to add a bit of adrenaline to a day of lounging at the beach and pool of the Cruise Center. There's no feasible surfing on Grand Turk, so this ride is the next best thing. It's easy to get tired surprisingly quickly, as surfing the jet waves is strenuous.

It typically takes a few tries to get the hang of the FlowRider.

Found in the large lagoon-like pool at the Grand Turk Cruise Center, the FlowRider is a great attraction for those looking for a bit of excitement.

It consists of a contoured slope where water is jetted in a thin sheet over the ramp to create wave-like conditions.

It’s possible to surf in a traditional standing surf stance, but a body or knee-boarding pose is much easier for beginners to maintain. Previous surfing or stand-up paddleboarding experience can certainly help, but isn't required.

The FlowRider is typically only open when a cruise ship is in. It's located near the main pool at Margaritaville.

Reservations

Learning the basics of the FlowRider.

If you want to try the FlowRider during your stay on Grand Turk, you’ll definitely want to reserve your spot in advance. Rides start at $35 (2026 price) for 90 minutes on the wave if you book through your cruise line. There's sometimes a discounted price for children.

Depending on the number of bookings, it’s usually possible to sign up in person at the cruise center, but availability isn’t guaranteed.

There may be as many as 15 other guests sharing an allotted time period. The attraction isn’t typically this busy, but you’ll likely be one of several people taking turns on the FlowRider at any given time.

Requirements

Children are allowed to ride, though there is a minimum height requirement of 52 inches (132 cm) to surf and 42 inches (106 cm) to bodyboard. An instructor is present at all times.

This activity is strenuous and there is risk of injury. People with certain health issues—such as heart problems, back and neck issues, and joint problems—may be refused a ride for their own safety. Pregnant women are not allowed on the ride.
